Norwich is a town of volunteers. the Town Committees, the Fire department are all volunteers. There is no mains water system but most houses have their own wells and fire ponds.
Every March, the townsfolk attend 'The Town Meeting' to elect Town Officers and debate to the point of a vote 'Articles on The Warning' to determine actions to be taken and school budgets for the following year.

The Town Library has recently been enlarged. It is Computer compliant both for themselves and customers.
Then there are those very active service organisations, The Lions The Norwich Women's Club, The Grange and The American Legion.

Norwich History
On July 4 1761, the proprietors of Norwich received a charter and came up from Mansfield, Connecticut each spring to clear selected lots of land.
In 1765 a committee of five laid out the road system and that year the first two non Indian families came up the Connecticut river by canoe, built log cabins and survived their first rugged winter.
Today Norwich is a delightful village with beautiful wooded hills, far views and pasture land. The Green Mountains, Vermont State's 'backbone' are within easy reach, with their ski areas, lakes and wilderness scenery. This is a winter and summer recreation area with the benefit of Nearby Dartmouth College.

There is a population of some 3,500 residents with many working in Hanover, a mile away, at the college or medical school. But there is a growing emphasis on computer software development and working from home is becoming popular.
There is also the tendency for large attractive retirement houses being built, whilst the high standard of education is another attraction.
