History of Norfolk

In 1866 some 44 German families and others from Wisconsin and plus more from New England found the land to be good for farming When one looks at some of the landing parts of New England it is not surprising that settlers were tempted to travel.
In 1881 a post office was named North Fork as part of that area. Norfork was thought to be simpler, and then the post office in their wisdom put the spelling right by calling it Norfolk - it seems that this story has been repeated elsewhere!
Highway and railway systems made Norfolk the largest city of the North Fork & Elkhorn valleys.
