Market Place update.
During March, the archaeologists spent a few days exploring the cleared section of the market place. At the top (city hall) end finds would be limited because in the 1930's when the current market place was built several feet of soil was removed to give a gentler slope.
But I was suprised how little digging they did at the bottom end. They did find part of the the foundations of the market cross which was demolished in the mid 1700's.

The first of the new market stalls have now been put in place, but the market surface has yet to be layed. It will be a few weeks before the stall-holders start moving in.

A few more of the new stalls have been added. This view reminds me of a Pete Seeger song from the 60's.....

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.
